Natalya Gorbanevskaya

Notes about Natalya Gorbanevskaya

Natalya Gorbanevskaya was a Russian poet, translater, and dissident in the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War. She participated in the Red Square protest against the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968, and was later placed in a mental institution like many dissidents were at the time. Gorbanevskaya's story was publicized by a song "Natalya" performed by folk singing legend Joan Baez.
